Design Philosophy

Chimera Interior Design listens to their clients, contemplating how interior design and interior decorating can enhance their lives. Contemporary and relevant, Chimera Interior Design understands the beauty of interior design is in the details. Willing to integrate client’s existing pieces into a new interior design project, Chimera Interior Design mixes custom furnishings with retail and to-the-trade finds to create visual interest within a manageable budget.

We pride ourselves on our exceptional communication skills and expertise in helping clients prioritize needs, deciding where to splurge and where to save. We are willing to take design risks, but not at the expense of the project. Now in our 17th year, our mission is to work together to create livable interiors while fulfilling a client’s design needs in a simple, efficient and relaxed manner. From high-end residential design, to vacation homes and commercial spaces, each project is approached with creativity, passion, sophistication and an innate curatorial sense.

Our Principal Designer

Valerie Borden, Allied ASID, recognized as one of the foremost interior designers in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and Metro-Phoenix, is featured in many interior design magazines, local television, as well as HGTV.

Rather than being known for a specific look, Valerie sees each interior design consultation and interior decorating project as an opportunity for innovation, avoiding tired formulas. Consistent sensibility pervades her work: warmth, comfort, beauty, quality and sharp interest in timeless design. Valerie’s distinct interior design and interior décor approach effortlessly spans many styles including Modern, Contemporary, Retro, Mediterranean, and Traditional, showcasing her artistic flair and highlighting each homeowner’s unique individuality.

Valerie’s interior design passion developed during years spent collecting vintage clothing and period furniture. She gained keen appreciation for detail and workmanship along with her emerging personal style of refined eclecticism.

Valerie’s education and training taught her to truly listen to and exchange ideas with her wide range of clients. Her strongly intuitive sense of what her clients are envisioning enables her to anticipate their needs. Working closely with architects, vendors and contractors results in a well managed project from start to completion — efficiently, effectively, on schedule and within budget.

Chimera Interior Design accepts projects in Metro Phoenix, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, as well as many national locations. Valerie’s creative work mainly serves clients with primary and second homes. Whether new construction, remodels or repurposing existing space, she brings her strengths to every project including retail stores, hospitals, medical offices, even yachts. Her work is highlighted in numerous shelter publications, including Better Homes and Gardens, Phoenix Home and Garden and architecture and home style magazines.
